Lawn Care Flyer Design Ideas

Much of the success of a flyer campaign will come down to the design. It is amazing how some designs can result in a huge volume of enquiries while others will leave you wondering what went wrong.

No rules are set in stone when it comes to advertising. Some flyers that seem to be well designed can flop while others that don't appear to be special at all can produce enough leads to put a big smile on your face.

There are some design guidelines that you can follow though. Experts have a fairly good idea of what will convert and what will fail. Here are some common design tips for lawn care business flyers.

Focus on Writing the Perfect Headline

Don't underestimate the importance of a great headline as without one your lawn care flyer will be destined for a date with the trash can.

Don't make the mistake of using the name of your lawn mowing business in the headline. People don't really care about who you are. All they really care about is what your business can do for them and how well you can do it.

You could also consider going for a headline that catches interest, arouses curiosity or makes an attractive offer. Remember that a great headline does not necessarily have to be funny.

Make a Great Offer

Be sure that your flyer copy includes a strong call to action. If customers read it once it is unlikely that they will read it again so try to inspire them to pick up the phone right away by offering them a 'limited time' offer.

These days you will have to think of an absolutely amazing offer if you hope to get the prospects attention at all. A 20% discount on the first mow just won't cut it anymore. You may have to look at offering a huge discount on their first mow or offering an additional service for free.

Have a little faith in people. Most are sincere and if they take you up on your amazing offer and find that you did a good job, they will want regular service. However, if you find that you are getting stung and that people take you up on your offer and then decline to hire you regularly you can always withdraw your offer. This is one reason why you should distribute a limited number of flyers at first, at least until you get a feel for how things are going to play out.

Lawn Care Images

Along with your headline, the images that you use on your flyer are also one of the first aspects to capture a prospects attention. One or two photos can work well and cartoon style images are also effective. Take a glance at some lawn care business flyers and you will see that there are two basic approaches.

Starting a Lawn Mowing Business Banner

Firstly, you can use an image that makes it crystal clear to the prospect that you are indeed a lawn business. Lawn mowers, lawn mower operators and neatly manicured lawns make it obvious.

Secondly, you can use images that allude to the results that can be gained by people when they use your service. Pictures of people enjoying their leisure time remind prospects of what they will be missing out on if they have to mow their own lawns this summer.

Keep it Simple

Keep your flyers neat, clean and simple in design. Your marketing message will be lost if you use a design that is too cluttered. The volume of text used on the flyer should be limited only to what is essential. Keep your message clear by stating only what is necessary and nothing else. Bullet points are great for organizing information and emphasizing key points.

Consider Printing on Both Sides

Unless it would result in complications with your printing method you may as well use both sides of your flyers. While one side can be promotional the other side could be more informational and feature more precise details about your lawn maintenance services.

Ensure that Details are Correct

Make sure that all the information and contact details are correct before you go and print thousands of copies. It is amazing how many people I know who have gone and printed thousands of copies of a flyer and then realized that there were some mistakes.

Logo and Color Scheme

While your logo design does not necessary have to feature prominently you should try to give it some exposure somewhere on the flyer. You should also use a similar design style and color scheme throughout all of your marketing materials so that people will eventually come to associate them with your business and possibly take more notice. It is hard to avoid using shades of green on your flyers as this color is so strongly associated with the lawn care industry. Don't use too many colors.

Consider Attaching a Business Card

Consider stapling one of your business cards to each of your flyers before you send them out. While people are likely to throw a flyer away they are much more likely to keep a business card for future reference and a business card will add a professional element to your ad.

Flyers, Postcards or Door hangers?

Some lawn care owners now prefer smaller promotional pieces on cardboard that are more like the size of a postcard and find that people respond better to these than they do with traditional full sized flyers. Door hangers are also great as they have a circle cut into them that can easily be slipped over a door handle.

Look for Results

If you are planning on running flyer campaigns to advertise your lawn care business over many years then it will pay to do some testing. Try out different headings, offers, styles and layouts and track results so that you can find out what works best.

There are no Rules

Remember that a successful flyer is not necessary the prettiest, the most beautifully designed or the most colorful. Successful flyers are the ones that result in the phone ringing and someone enquiring about your services. You may be surprised at what works well and what doesn't.

Whatever you do, try to make your flyer the one that will stand out among all the other junk mail that households get.
